You are required to write a 500 word evaluation of this module.

Through this module, I think I have learned and realised many things. This module helped me a better understanding what illustration is and how illustration works. I have come across many new things and knowledge during this module. I am very grateful to have come to these sessions and learned about it. I was quite excited to know a new artist, opened my eyes to see a different drawing by various culture and industry.
I think what the most important thing I gained from this module is to be critical. If I seem any art works, I should not ignore it and just walked by think of nothing. After looking many different artists I this module, I think as an art student I should constantly be thinking and reflecting everything around me. I think I have learned to appreciate people’s work now, and also comparing similarity from it, learned the technique that this artist has. Because I do not read as much as the book, I used to be now, so I used many references are from my childhood memory. This module recalled the memory of younger me who read comic every day, ambition and hard- working. I don’t know when did I starting to lose it. I think it has been a while since I last think about what I am going do when I graduated. I know I am going to do something about art, about illustration, but I don't think about it deeply like what kind of art job. I remember my dream was making comics and illustrations eventually animate it. But now I feel like it is not as firmly as I used to be. I feel sorry for my younger me the one who tells everyone she is going to be a famous cartoonist. I think now I am gradually coming back because that was the reason I decided to do art to into illustration course.
As I mentioned in my presentation, during the year I realised I have a few shortages that I need to change. Before I get into the second year, I think I will keep challenging myself in summer, and make sure I get ready for Level 5.

SELF 2

What I have learned most importantly is I realised I know myself a little bit more, and how many weakness I have.

During this year I feel like I always lack ideas. When I think I about it I found the reason why this happens. I am always absorbing and accepting new things, but never really think about it by myself. They are so many information from the Internet, and they are all fragmented and random. This is why I deicide to back to reading again, not just Wikipedia and Google what I want to know. Otherwise, I feel like I am going to lose the ability to think. I do not want to be a robot because that is not what an artist should be like.

The lack of confidence have always been my problem, even in the study, I offend question myself ' am I doing this right? Wait, I think I did it wrong'.

The most important thing that I need to change is time management. I am a deadline fighter, before the last day of submission I always doing things very slowly and easily distracted by other things. When I am doing a project, I will go to do other stuff that has nothing to do with my project.

ILLUSRTATED SELF

Sketches

Me easily distracted by other things when I am doing anything.

Lack of confidence

This is basically what I am doing everyday, listening to music and walking alone on the street, reading, write notes, drawing, playing games, watching video, seeing friend.
 Basically me everyday

FINAL ILLUSTRAION

I was going to draw it digitally but then I decide to use something I don't offend use which is ink. I was thinking add a thin bright colour of layer on top but then I feel like I should keep the black and white, it has that kind of feeling which I want to show. Moody, stressed, overwhelmed. (So try to be organised next year!) But as I always said, it could be better. I am kind of what to see what is this going to be like if I have done it on computer.

INTERDISCIPLINARY

Elderbrook

I love the packaging of this drink brand. It has different packaging and it tells us what is not.  Elderbrook drinks is a cordial, not a squash which means it’s a health drink meant to be diluted with water. The not squash part is the first of the not’s that Elderbrook wants us to know about. The same idea is used for each of the ten flavours that you can get of the drink. I like the colour of the illustrations on the bottles, the colours are beautiful. I think because of the packaging is successful and is marketed in a fun way, people will buy it for collection.

I also trying to use bright colour in my drawing and I have try control myself adding too much details, this is the outcome. It is not as simple as the illustrations on Elderbook, but at least I am
changing. My friend even said this doesn't looks like my drawing style.

EXHIBIT - WOLFGANG TILLMANS

WOLFGANG TILLMANS

I visited Tate modern to watch Wolfgang Tillmans and 'The Radical eye' exhibition. In here I will talk about Wolfgang Tillsmans ('the radical eye' do not allow taking picture so I can only talk about tillmans). This is the first time I come arcoss his work, I feel like his work are about something around us but unrealistic, there are not limited for the subject in his work. He have various work, from portrait to still life, from still life to abstract.

'My work is aimed at creating a world in which I wish to live. Consequently, it is about creating ideals with the aid of realistic techniques. My most fundamental motivation is a desire for unity, fusion and sense of community.'

The works in here demonstrate Tillmans's concern with the physical process of making photographs, from chemical darkroom processes and their potential to create abstract pictures without the camera, to digtal technology that is vital to the production of contemporary images, and the paper onto wich they are printed.

Shanghai night, 2009

I can see Tillmans is interested in social life. His photographs of individuals and groups are underpinned by his conviction that we are all vulnerable and that our well-being depend upon knowing that we are not alone in the world.

There is a playback room in this exhibition, is a space designed for listening to recorded music. I heard three tracks in this room, three are by colourbox (an English band who were active between 1982 and 1987). Tillmans is a fan of this band and because they never performed live thus emphasising the importance of the studio recordings.  I appreciate that and I spend quite a long time in there, it encourage us to think about how recorded music can be given prominence in museum setting. ( After I came back and did some research of Tillmans, I was surprised that Tillmans not just taking photos but also make music. )

I noticed he never frame his works, he just stick them on the walls. That is what I like about him, never use those thing to exalt his works. I think he is a distinctive photographer, his work have a sense of provoking, challenging the limitation of photography and art.
