IMAGE IDEA CONTEXT

These two images are from Aya Kato who is one of my favourite Japanese illustrator. I remembered the first time I came across her work I was totally amazed by her unique and whimsical style which full of flowing buildings, beautiful women, detailed plants... Many features from her drawings are from traditional painting, like the way she draw moon and phoenix. She also used a lot of contrasting colour like gold, red and yellow...and it kind of reminds me of Gustav Klimt. I like the depress feeling on her painting as well. The colour that she chose and the way she draw all the features, they all makes her painting looks gloomy and dark but gorgeous at the same time. For different purpose Aya Kato will choose different use of colour. The images above are more commercial. They are bright and colourful, with many Japanese traditional painting's especially Ukiyoe skills in it.
